Starting Our Cloth Diaper Journey

While we still have a decent stash of disposables left, I decided to start our cloth diaper journey this week!

Those who know me know I’m a crazy financial nerd - I had been featured in various news/blog articles for absolutely crushing my student loan debt and taking back my life a few year ago. With that said, cloth diapering was always a goal of mine when I thought I’d be having one baby. Not only does it make sense financially, but you’re contributing less waste to the planet you’ll be leaving behind to your baby, so there really wasn’t any down sides that I saw aside from a little extra laundry and time. ⁣

When we found out we were having triplets, however, I’ll never forget the amount of people who assumed I’d be throwing the cloth dream out the window along with many other goals of mine. ⁣

I’ll admit the thought of washing, stuffing, and traveling with cloth times 3 was daunting, but the amount of money I’d spend in diapers from birth until potty training was way worse. Did you know the cost to disposable diaper triplets until age 2 (if you’re lucky to potty train by then) is roughing $10,000? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!! Yeah no. Not happening. I could think of way better things to spend $10k on than plastic crap my babies shit in. ⁣

While I’m determined to make cloth diapering work, I’m also realistic. Aside from safe sleep, there’s nothing about raising babies that I was, or am, 100% confident about because situations change once you’re in the thick of it (much like my journey in breastfeeding). There’s no shame in backtracking on goals or processes and figuring out what works best for your family. ⁣

I will go into this determined, but knowing it’s okay to change my mind if it comes to it. I’ll need y’all in my corner for encouragement, and would love to hear your cloth stories as well! ❤️⁣
